Edge UOL develops high-performance solution to anticipate tax changes and the new National NFS-e Standard

The Brazilian tax landscape has always been marked by complexity and high compliance costs, resulting from the regulatory autonomy of thousands of municipalities. With the progress of the Tax Reform, this scenario began to shift through the institution of the National Standard NFS-e, an initiative focused on tax simplification and unification that has required companies to adapt quickly to new regulations.

To manage this transition and ensure operational agility, Edge UOL designed a project to overcome the former fragmentation of local rules in light of the new national standard (SEFIN). Serving major players in sectors such as technology, education, and ticketing, the company delivered a centralized solution that replaces thousands of individual integrations, ensuring business continuity even as municipal systems are discontinued and regulatory updates remain constant.

Our challenges

The main challenge was to implement a centralized platform capable of communicating with the Federal Revenue Service’s data environment and ensuring seamless business continuity during this massive regulatory shift, moving away from individual integrations that varied from city to city.

How We Solved It

In only three months, Edge UOL developed a modern tax processing and messaging architecture. The technology was designed to act as a single hub, replacing hundreds of legacy connections with a robust system of direct integration with the new national environment.

The solution utilizes cloud auto-scaling to process massive data volumes. Unlike older models that failed during closing dates, the new platform supports peaks of over 1 million simultaneous invoices, ensuring the company’s tax operations never stop, regardless of the load. Communication was modernized via JSON, making data exchange with ERPs (such as SAP) much lighter and more agile than the old XML standard.

Implementation

The project was executed in a “simultaneous construction” scenario: while the Federal Revenue Service and municipalities were still defining the national platform’s technical specifications, the Edge UOL team adjusted the tool in real-time.

Using the Agile methodology, the implementation followed a progressive validation strategy. The system was first tested in smaller municipalities to ensure stability before being scaled to major cities. This approach allowed the solution to be born already validated, resilient, and ready for mandatory compliance, while many other companies in the market were only beginning their adequacy studies.
