Cybelar modernizes cloud environment to increase processing capacity and maximize operational efficiency

Cybelar, a furniture and appliance retail chain from the countryside of São Paulo state, relies on the support of Edge UOL to implement the update of its environment to the Edge UOL Cloud. This stems from a partnership established with the company in 2014, aligning the cloud structure's functionalities with the most advanced resources on the market, in addition to contributing to the reduction of operational costs.

Cybelar was founded in 1952 as a family business and today is recognized as a reference in the retail sector in São Paulo’s countryside. The company has an extensive product line that includes furniture, appliances, electronics, computer equipment, telephones, cell phones, and toys in its network, aiming to offer a wide variety of household and personal use products.

Our challenge

• Criticality: To perform the migration of Cybelar’s entire environment, encompassing the sales system and ERP – considered the most critical components – without interrupting operations in all stores and delivery to the final customer.
• Operational Fragility: The applications were running on an IBM Power – a physical hardware that, despite its high performance, was legacy and demanded high costs.
• Obsolete System: The AIX operating software no longer had life cycles and did not receive security updates, increasing the infrastructure's vulnerability.
• Performance Maintenance: To ensure that the cloud environment offered the same performance as the physical hardware, prioritizing security.

How we solved it

• Sizing and customization of the entire processing architecture to enable the migration from IBM Power to the Edge UOL Cloud. The challenge was overcome by the team with the help of specific tools, such as vRealize Operations, to adjust resources and ensure correspondence between environments.
• Conversion of the AIX operating system to Red Hat to provide compatibility with the rest of the infrastructure, thereby preserving data integrity.

• Sustained performance that the client had on the IBM Power – now in a virtualized environment.
• In a market comparison, the Standard solution contracted by Cybelar from Edge UOL proved to be 67% more economical than the Enterprise version quoted with another supplier.
• 23% decrease in monthly costs linked to cloud functionalities.
